Approach: Fig Industrial Design
approach
Design
The design phase further develops the ideas generated in the exploration phase. It is where we really begin to see if the ideas we had could work. This facilitates the narrowing of potential options, focusing on the final result. Activities include:
Concept development
- develop selected concepts in form, functionality and manufacturability,
- preliminary CAD modeling and visualization
- produce physical, appearance models, and massing models (rough models that articulate the scale of the product and its context)
- collect material samples,
Concept Validation
- review with manufacturer,
- review with potential user group
- validate concepts with all key stakeholders,
- refine concepts for final review and selection.
deliverables in this phase can include manual sketches, models, CAD renderings and preliminary prototypes. CAD data in this phase will be surfaces only, no manufacturing CAD data is generated. If product testing for further validation is performed, written reports of findings are also delivered.
